Collaboration remix projects - 2020
"THE OTHERS" - AN ONGOING ANALOG-DIGITAL REMIX PROJECT IN COLLABORATION WITH FOUR OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL WRITERS SUCH AS AMIGO, SCKRE, SHANE HUSS AND MUROE.
„The others“ is a project that I started during the first lockdown phase of the Covid19 pandemic. Confronted with such a diverse and massive output on all the social media channels, I asked myself what I could do with so much input from others.
So I spent much time in the studio to develop a workflow that focuses on the conversion process from analog sketches to digital and back to analog.
First I started with the idea to ask a hand full of other writers to allow me to use some of their sketches for the remixing project that I simply called „The Others“.
With AMIGO, SCKRE, SHANE HUSS and MUROE, my first initiative of a digital-exchange started and that’s how all those different writing styles landed on my computer.
By converting them into simplified vectorized outlines, I was able to remix the content via my penplotter device in multiple ways.
The result is a technique where I work with a milling machine, a so called penplotter that allows me to mix digital media and create unique illustration artworks on paper. Different pens from gelly-rolls over fineliners up to calligraphy pens spice up the receipt. I also invested time to get a customized touch-sensitive fiberglass pen (Thanks Reinhard Gupfinger to make it happen) to convert any plot into a lightpainting.

THE ARTIST COLLABORATIONS

TOFA feat. AMIGO
Amigo has always been a fascinating artist and dancer. Our longterm friendship started in 2003 and lead to various collaborations over the years. Besides being a pioneer in breakdance Amigo has also exceptional calligraphy skills. From his ink letter series I got hold of an abstract style that I transormed into different versions, working with different material and techniques. You can also check out more of Amigos work here.
TOFA feat. SCKRE
Video.SCKRE is a wellknown streetart duo from Linz and when they painted a hugescale mural in my neighbourhood, I was crossing by and we came into a talk. A bit later I got some nice sketches from Sckre and I started fooling around in various directions. E.g. the bird in the first 2 pictures is a vectorized and abstracted snapshot that I took from the mural in my hood. As Sckre has topnotch graffiti lettering skills, I was happy to work on variations of his sketches that speak a clean abstract but also fineline linear language. Working with different material and techniques, the output of the remix sessions is a pleasure to watch. Check out more of Video.Sckre work here.
TOFA feat. SHANE HUSS
Shane is a perfectionist when it comes to calligraphy handlettering and graffiti. I felt a direct connection when I first saw his works and I was inspired to dive more back into calligraphy since then. I connected with him via Instagram and he throwed a couple of letterings on my table which all were worth a try of using different techniques in multiple studio-sessions.

TOFA feat. MUROE
I tummbled upon the works of Muroe on Instagram a few months ago. His b&w sketches directly caught my attention, so I dropped him a line - et voila, the fourth counterpart of the collaboration was set and ready.
Muroe is a passionate writer who got infected with cans and graffiti back in the end of the 90s. Check out his work here
